About the Modesto Architecture Database
![]() |
In 1984, the Stanislaus
County Historical Society started a survey of historically significant
buildings in Modesto. They surveyed more than 1000 buildings documenting
as much information as they could gather. A copy of the survey is in the
Special Collections Room of the main library downtown and available to
everyone. David Breazeale
compiled the information into a digital database for your use online.
Over the last several months, we have updated the database, eliminating
buildings no longer in existence, adding newer buildings and ones that
were not included in the original survey. As of July 2009, the database
has more than 1012 buildings and continues to expand. We believe it may
be the largest single-city architecture database in the world.
