Architecture Research Uncovers Treasures and Surprises So far the museum has uncovered more than 70 buildings and 12 landscapes in Modesto by progressive mid-20th century modern designers. We suspect there are many more. The museum is also uncovering the history of these projects and how it came to be that Modesto, then a town of less than 20,000 people, has so many. We’ve also discovered some mysteries. Here’s one of them. According to the Bernard Maybeck archives, the famed early 20th century architect designed a project for the Modesto Gas Company in 1924. So far we’ve been unable to learn anything more about this project.
