1. Modesto Architecture

For decades through the 20th century, Modesto was on the cutting edge of architecture in California and United States. Modesto's landscape, commercial, residential, and government architecture was held up as a model for others and major architects designed buildings and landscapes in the city. Among them are John Funk, William Wurster, Frank Lloyd Wright, Gardner Dailey, Milton Pflueger, Joseph Eichler, Aaron Green, Joseph Esherick, Germano Milono, Armet and Davis, Thomas Church, Robert Royston, and John McLaren. Modesto Art Museum provides the following ways for you to explore and enjoy Modesto's architectural heritage.

2. Building a Better Modesto

In response to Modesto's rank as the least livable city in the country, the Modesto Art Museum's program, Building a Better Modesto, explores the place of the visual arts in creating a more livable Modesto. In particular we investigate architecture, landscape, and urban design through exhibits, talks, tours, online resources, and movies.
